Tenerife : Together with the Institut für Astrophysik Göttingen, the Max Planck-Institut für Sonnensystemforschung in Katlenburg-Lindau and the Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam KIS operates several solar telescopes at the Spanish 'Obervatorio del Teide' (2400 m, 16 deg 30 min 37.1 sec west, 28 deg 18 min 8.9 sec north, position of the VTT due to GPS determination, precision about 50 m rms) at Izaña on Tenerife.

The building of the VTT in the Observatorio del Teide on Tenerife |
Using a separate telescope in the building of the VTT the H-alpha images of the KIS are taken since May 1996. The H-alpha telescope will be replaced by ChroTel.
An old building (- which housed from 1985 until 2002 a Gregory-Coude - mirror telescope with a 45-cm aperture -) is the place for the new GREGOR , a new open solar telecope with 1.5 m aperture. The foldable dome was installed in summer 2004 and the alt-azimuth-mounting and structure of the telescope in autumn 2004. The schedule is to start observing with GREGOR in autumn 2006.
If you intend to visit the Observatorio del Teide (OT), where we are also guests, please contact the spanish astrophysical institute of the Canary Islands (IAC=Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias). You should contact the IAC several weeks ahead before you want to take part in a guided tour within the OT. Here you find their e-mail address and telephone numbers (in spanisch and english).
Schauinsland : Near to the mountain peak Schauinsland (1240 m, 7 deg 54 min 15 sec east, 47 deg 54.8 min north) 20 km away from Freiburg the KIS operates a tower telescope (refractor) of 45 cm aperture. This installation is used for testing of equipment and education of students. In addition the public guided tours of the KIS are performed here: For details see public relations.
